Spirited constructs a world and inhabits it with intelligent creatures that react dynamically with their environment.
It is based on the idea that the behavioral qualities of the “creatures” change in relation to geometric shapes encountered in the environment. Specifically, the further away a “creature” was to one of these shapes, the more dull they became. In order to emit a brighter glowing light, the “creatures” had to re-approach the shapes.
Using the Python API interface with Autodesk Maya, each “creature” was created to have a trajectory and goals of its own, in order to move from point to point like a real-world organism under a microscope. The fluid, snake-like motion—shown as the entities change direction—was created originally in 2-dimensions using Processing, then translated over to the new environment.
