Origami

Origami

Founded in 2013, Origami was building mobile payment solutions for Japan's cash-dominant market. The startup launched QR-code payments in 2015 and worked with partners including convenience stores and restaurants to bring digital payments to Japanese consumers.

When I moved to Japan in 2015, I joined Origami during their pivot from ecommerce to mobile payments. I worked on designing payment experiences in a market where consumers were unsure of digital payments.

Pay

Working closely with an iOS engineer while receiving ongoing feedback from the CEO, I prototyped in Swift a way to pay with Bluetooth. Something that that made purchases feel more fun than cash.

I also designed the customer ratings feature for these in-store experiences. Giving store owners insights about customer preferences that helped them improve service beyond what purchase history alone could reveal.

Navigation

With pop-up promotions happening in malls across the country, we needed people to experience payments without account creation barriers. I redesigned the navigation to prioritize core functions. These were payments, cards, and receipts.

We also added guest browsing so shoppers could immediately understand the value without signing up.
